FASHION ICON "RIHANNA"

In a modern day society, we have some of the most iconic fashion designers of our time. Some of the greats include Diane Von Furstenburg, Stella Mccartney, Prada, Lanvin, Chanel, Alexander McQueen , and many more. With every designer having a unique style and an array of adornments and textiles being used, it’s no wonder why we have the best looking stars, bar none. That is why we are so smitten with their fashion sense, thay have the best, the finest, and look top notch. Textiles of our time include luxurious silks, tulle, organza, chiffon, fine leather, cashmere and much more. No one wonder why they look like a million bucks, their outfit costs a million bucks!!!

Rihanna has had a very powerful influence not only vocally, but fashionably as well. Millions of girls and adults alike either look up to her or are influenced by her on a daily basis. Her music has an exceptional way of transcending feelings, along with raw emotion. It is easy then to see the impact that musicians and pop stars can have on us and what we wear. Fashion isn’t just about clothing it is a state of mind. It is the attitude and feeling you get from the clothing.

How about fashion icon Rihanna? Most of us know Rihanna as a music artist, but do you know about the impact she has had in the fashion world? She has a unique fashion style all her own. Her style is fierce and daring. She is not afraid to push the boundaries of fashion. She is a risk taker, but she knows how to pull it off. Rihanna often mixes prints, colors, textures, and often will mix together high fashion pieces with everyday garments. Rhianna constantly keeps us thinking , “What is she going to wear next?” That is what we love about her.

The Faux Pas of Everyday Life

There are faux pas in life as there are in fashion. You guys know what
I am talking about, those days when everything goes wrong.

For me it started when I woke up this morning. The dog pooped all over the
chair because I was  upstairs with my kids, but just a minute go I was sitting
right next to him. Did he have to go then?  NO. It just so happens that the minute
I went up stairs, he had to go poo. Who gets yelled at? You guessed it, me.

The dog is old too, so part of me has sympathy. When you get old you just get bladder
issues, thats why old people wear depends. They don't have depends for old hotdogs.

He is an eighteen year old hot dog. Have you heard of an 18 year old daschund before? They usually are gone by age 12 max. What does that make him 195 years old? This one is sticking around for something, he has a will to live. He is well mannered most of the time,  just eats poops, and sleeps.
I love him, but today he is literally a "crap head."

Then  I have my husband yelling at me all day because he volunteered me to take
my daughter to a friends house and lucky for me she changed plans again for  the
00th  time, as always, but I honestly didn't mind since I got away from the rest of
my kids, whom I love, but drive me absolute bonkers sometimes, the point is I didn't
mind the change of plans until I got yelled at because I was late, she didn't get yelled at
just me of course.

Besides the dog with the bladder issues, getting yelled at about anything
and everything, crying kids, feeling like a door mat, trying to create plans for a
future magazine which I need photographers for, telling my husband whom I love
with all my heart, whom is my bestfriend, but at the moment he needs to get a life!!!

He was hurt badly in a car accident by a kid going 55 mph  who fell asleep at the
wheel and has had triple back surgery. He has a big reason to complain, but after a
while it gets to you. This is real life. I know someone out there will appreciate my
blurb. It can only get better, I am staying positive.

Any one else have stories? I would love to hear them!!!

An amendment to 1970's Mantra Blog

Hello, I wanted to make an amendment to my 1970's blog. I realized after it was wriitten, it could be taken wrong, that was not my intention. It was meant to be a humerous blog and all of the trends were  real life trends taken from history. it was not something based upon race or religion, they were truly 1970's trends. I didn't want anyone to think otherwise, I truly respect all people of all ethnicities, race , or what have you and value you as human beings. Please accept my apology if it was taken otherwise.

THE FANTASTIC 90'S

Do you remember the “puffy jackets,” that P. Diddy wore? I was age 11 when the 90’s trends came roaring through and I remember them certainly well. “Puffy jackets” may have come back in style since the 1990’s, but I will not be wearing one. These jackets are so puffed out that you cannot get in the car without feeling that you set the air bag off. Have you ever dribbled your pop down your jacket because the puffs of the jacket are puffed out too far? Take it from me, I am not the most graceful type. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that the puffs of this jacket are way too big to be functional.

Now lets move on to the oversized pants that I have seen mostly guys wear. What were we thinking? I am not trying to be cynical here, but did we think it was attractive to not pull up our pants? We actually tried to put a belt, or chain wallet over the oversized monstrasities, but even the belts and chains rejected the pants because they still couldn’t hold them up. Wow! It amazes me the fashion cycles we go through, only to discover that the “horrid” trend is coming back around. Why didn’t we learn the first time? I don’t even want to move on to the next trend, but I have to go there.

The next trend is on the “designer athletic shoes.” Do you remember the Michael Jordan shoes with pumping action? Yikes! Did we really think we were going to fly through the air and make a slam dunk because of some pumping mechanism on the tongue of the shoe? I know that we all have some great imaginations, but come on! I’m not going to look down upon all the trends of the 90’s, just most of them, with all kidding aside, there were some trends that I liked.

The different colored-hair styles were cool and a great way to express yourself. I really liked the red hair dye, it seemed to be the color that stayed in your hair the longest where the other shades tended to fade rather quickly. Black wasn’t a bad color either. I didn’t like the colors green and blue. The green color just looked like snot and the blue turned a silvery shade that old people wore. The paler colors were the ones that looked bad, but it was the brighter colors that looked cool.

Hooded sweatshirts are always in style. A big comfortable sweatshirt never goes out of style. The soft fleece sweatshirts feel like a cozy blanket on your skin and that never gets old. Now I will touch on the henna tattoo’s. Henna tattoo’s were another artistic way to express yourself. The great thing about the henna tattoo is that it washed off, if say you broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend and there name is tattooed on your face. It is just my opinion, but I am guessing your new beau for some reason will not be digging your tat. In conclusion I think you get my drift about 1990’s styles so that when they come back around again, you may think twice about your fashion choices. I just want you to think that maybe those baggy pants were not such a good idea, that maybe they really were not that attractive, that maybe you don’t want to get caught with your pants down again!

THE FASHIONABLE 2000'S

Fashion trends of the 2000's consist of many clothing pieces. Who are skinny jeans made for exactly?

Think about the term skinny. I don't know who would like these jeans unless you are "skinny." I know I don't want my fat rolls hanging out of my pants; it's just not very attractive. Oversized-sweaters and tunics are more down my alley. These fashion trends hide flaws, imagine that: people have flaws! The oversized-tops hide hips, thighs, and butts! What more could a girl ask for? Now I will talk about the bold-colored-leggings. I don't know about you, but I don't need bold-colored leggings highlighting my thighs.

Vintage t-shirts are cool. They are so comfortable to wear and convey different messages, or graphics depending on the t-shirt you choose. Animal prints can be cool, but be careful to only choose one piece per outfit. What tends to happens if you choose more than one piece is that you either look like you came from the zoo or you end up looking too "matchy-matchy." My advice to you is to be wise in your selection of clothing because you only get one first impression. You cannot go back in time and change the impression you gave. I love ballet flats; they come in a variety of colors and styles. This shoe is a great alternative to the stiletto, but if you are short and need a little bit of height this may not be the ideal shoe for you.

Ruffles can be a great trend if you wear it right. I love ruffles because they can be sexy and flirty. You should proceed with caution when wearing any new trend. Avoid looking like the ruffle queen, and stick to choosing one ruffle piece per outfit.

The fingerless glove trend of this decade is stylish and multi-functional. You can pull off the finger pieces of the gloves to use your cell phone, type on the computer, and continue to do what you are doing without having the bulkiness of a regular glove. The new tops with jewelry attached are a great trend. The only problem I find is that the reproductions of this trend can be cheaply made and you find gaudy jewelry or jewelry pieces that fall off. Also, you have to make sure that the jewelry that comes with this clothing piece is detachable so that you can take it off when washing it. If you cannot detach the jewelry, it will get rusty in the wash and ruin the whole look of your top. This look is "hot" and has a great concept. The 1980's style has come back with a vengeance to make popular today, what was popular back then. Since I have grown up in this decade, I can describe to you pretty well the trends, and clothing concepts that are back in style. Besides the fingerless gloves, another accessory I will mention is the 1980's hats which include the popular veiled pillbox hat, which actually came from the princess of Whales, and trucker hats. The famous veiled pillbox hat looked just like a pill box with a veil over the top. This was not a good trend; it had a very cheap look to it, and just looked bad. The trucker hat is still used today, and is not a trend that I am fond of. The trucker hat looks like something you would get out of a Cracker Jack box.

Please follow my advice when wearing the new fashion trends because again you only have that one time to make a good first impression, and believe me you don’t want to ruin that job interview because of the way you dressed, or even missed an opportunity to meet “Mr. right” because of the way you dressed. You will feel much more confident when you know how to “rock the new trends. “ Listen to my advice and you will save yourself the embarrassment of highlighting your thighs with bold leggings, when you meant to detract from your thighs and just wanted to try a new trend because it looked cool. What about the time you selected more than one animal print and looked like a walking giraffe instead of a “hot chic?” Don’t forget about the time, you were named ruffle queen because you looked like a damn bird. I think you get my point! Don’t let it happen again, just heed my advice before you get out of control with the new trends. Please don’t hesitate, just ask me. My advice is priceless!!!

THE 1970'S MANTRA

The anything goes mantra of the 70’s, was exactly that, “Anything Goes.” If you didn’t live in the 70’s, you might remember hearing about 70’s fashion including the hairstyles. How could you forget about the image left in your mind when you were told that the “Afro” was in style? I am talking about the “Afro” as a style trend, meaning people actually wanted to leave their hair untamed. Your hair looked like it was running away from your face or that you stuck your finger in a light socket. How about that for fashion. Good thing today’s hair styles are a little bit more manageable.

What about the “midi” and “maxi” length dresses of the 1970’s? They couldn’t make up their mind, so the styles of this decade included a little bit of everything. The midi dresses were dresses that would fall anywhere from calf to ankle. Now I don’t have a problem with this length like they did back in the 1800’s, it was controversial and provocative to even show your ankle. Look at the styles today; it’s a good thing the same rules don’t apply today, or we would be stuck wearing “granny dresses,” which consists of a high neck called a stand neck. Imagine how hot you would look in that outfit. Hey, you may get a senior citizens discount, but don’t try getting a date, you may be mistaken for, well, a granny.

Popular was also the “Maxi” length dress, which was gown length, to the floor or at least to the top of the shoe. You have to be careful with this trend. With the maximum length that these dresses provided, you wouldn’t want to trip over your dress, go flying, and land on your face. These dresses should come with a hazard warning. You should hope these things are not flammable, forbid that you trip while you’re at your neighbor’s bon fire and you go up in flames like flaming cheese, what do they call it, OPA?

Do you remember hearing about the 60’s long hair being popular into the early 1970’s? People don’t think that just because a style is in, doesn’t mean it could pose a hazard to your health. What about the people who shut their hair in the car door and ripped out their hair? What kind of pain do you think that person is in? I wonder how long it took before their hair would grow back? What about when people with long hair would do their gardening and got their hair wrapped around one of those picker bushes? Ouch! I know you remember the 1960’s hot pants, because this style has been recycled over and over again. What is so cool about someone’s butt cheeks hanging out of their shorts? Please just avoid this trend at all costs! Please spare us the embarrassment on your behalf. We don’t want to see your thong, butt cheeks, cellulite or whatever else may be hanging out of your shorts, thanks!

Men’s polyester leisure suits with pointed collars and open shirts were another popular trend of the 1970’s. Do you remember the "disco look", complete with the three-piece suits for men? If you remember the film “Saturday Night Fever,” with John Travolta this style has been forever immortalized in your brain. What was it that made the ladies swoon over john Travolta? Is it the clothes that makes the man, or does the man make the clothes? I just have a feeling it was not the polyester leisure suit with shoulder pads, that just looked ridiculous complete with a pointed collar shirt that could poke your eye out. Don’t forget about the image of the men’s opened shirts that let out the grizzly bear chest hair. Oh, before I forget I will mention the 2-4 inch heeled platform shoes. Those shoes could be used as weapons, if you needed them to be.

When selecting clothing to become a trend, remember that there could be repercussions for your actions. There are certain hair and fashion styles that could be hazardous to your health. Just remember, that just because a certain style is in fashion doesn’t necessarily mean it is a good thing.

THE AWESOME 80'S

Let me take you back to a time when rolling up your pants was cool, friendship bracelets were cool, and who could have forgotten about the speedo swimsuits? Want to know more? Stay glued to your computer for various other terrifying trends that existed here in America.

When did we start tight rolling our pants? Did we think that you were considered “Out,” If you didn’t tight roll your pants? Was there actually a tight rolling club? Could the name be” The Tight Wads?” This is just one of the many fatalities in trends of the 80’s. From a person who has already been shamed for such things that were once cool, be careful of the styles that you adopt as trends, because they may come back to haunt you. You never know when that photo of you partying with your tight rolled jeans on, may come back up when you least expect it.

Where did friendship bracelets come from? Did we think we could get friends by wearing friendship bracelets? What about the people, (which do exist,) who did not have any friends and bought a bunch of friendship bracelets and stuck them on their arm so it made them look like they had many? Hmm I guess I was one of the cool ones then.

Let’s move on to the speedo. We all have encountered the speedo, you’re out there. You know what I am talking about, the older people who shouldn’t be wearing them. We have all been out one hot summer afternoon near some body of water where the speedo appeared out of nowhere when you least expected it. What a frightening sight that was. You were looking for your friend and there it appeared, that silhouette of a tight suit, and what was under it by the way, was not tight. The flesh was hanging out in bulges over the swimsuit bottoms, the cellulite did not discriminate; it did not matter if you were black, white, or Asian, because it was all out there for everyone to see. The cellulite was running away from the thighs in droves with indentations from the ripple effect. My advice to you is this; get a t-shirt that says, “Friends Don’t Let Friends Wear Speedo’s!”

Remember the frills on collars and hems of the 1980’s? The trend sounds, well normal, but when you actually see the frills on collars and hems, well, it’s not normal. Pay close attention to the words I am typing you and think about what is being said about 80’s trends. “Adapted factual or fictional themes and Hollywood glamour were chosen to make a personal look. The flamboyant, colorful dramatic look, used frills and luscious fabrics associated with historical periods.” Here is a humorous example of eighties frills: Romantic glamour had the swashbuckling style of pirates and buccaneers. Full sleeved frilled pirate shirts were made from luxury fabrics. Let’s just say there are two things wrong with this picture, number one the trend, and number two the designers. Who came up with the Pirate costume as a day time look and what are you going to wear for Halloween?!

Do I dare move on to the next trend? Most trends were universal for men and women, but in case the men thought I left them out, here are some trends for you. Remember the bright colorful vests and bright shirts you used to wear, well they are coming back in style. In case you had forgotten about the smiley face, it’s back with a vengeance, and it’s on many of the stores shelves, and oh those bright-colorful vests, I am afraid so, being worn over the smiley’s! What about the power suits, oh the glorious power suits with shoulder pads; I guess they needed to create height somewhere. Those shoulder pads were hideous, and I am not just talking about for the guys, but for the women, they made us look like the incredible hawk, the only difference was we were not green.

I hope you found my writings about the 1980’s trends intriguing. I hope you laughed a lot and learned a little. There are just some trends that you need to refuse to wear, make that every single trend I have listed here.
